First and foremost let me be clear. This is just my idea of Communism. There are many different ideas.
Why this Subreddit?
After being banned from multiple different "Communist" subs for petty reasons not related to the rules, I decided to make my own where you will not be banned for not following political correctness, for participating in other subs. Hell, as long as it's allowed on Reddit, I won't touch it.
Ok I may delete porn or gore. This is meant to be a political subreddit anyways.
That said if you oppose Communism, that's fine. However you will need to do more than spam the same comments/arguments. As well as provide talking points. Other than that, I do not care what political stance you have. And if I don't have a flair for it, please message me and I'll get that fixed.
Communism cannot work from a Revolution. Communism is an ideology for the people, by the people. And as such cannot work when only a small amount of people support it. Even 80% is to small of a support rate for a Revolution to work. Either you'd need unanimous support from the entire population, or a revolution would fail. Instead, we need to look at the peaceful and slow process to adopt Communism. This is simply converting our current system into a Socialist system, then into Communism. This doubles as a way to help teach different values into kids, and instill a better worldview into their minds.
A lot of people think Communists are just lazy boring people who want free stuff. This isn't true aside from the edge lord liberals. We live in an interesting time of computers and machines. Slowly but surly jobs are disappearing. People will counter this claim by saying that jobs will always be needed. However there's always less jobs with automation. If we replace 50 Taxi cabs with self driving ones, a single person could monitor at least 10 for any issues, or customer support. This reduces jobs. In theory, we will eventually come to a point when job automation is widespread. In a Capitalist society, this would mean those without jobs have no way of paying for food, rent, etc. This would essentially kill off the poor. Early Stage Socialism would also have a bad outcome. Since while the lower class is supported, a more Capitalist leaning Socialist society would mean the poor have very little luxuries. And as such, would still be poor. While others are rich.
Communism however is Classless, and has no system of currency. As such in this Fully Automated world people would have an equally high style of living.
Since Americans love their guns, I've put this front and centre. Under Communism gun ownership shouldn't just be available, but mandatory. In School beginning in grade 5 kids would learn the basics of gun control in P.E. When they turn 16 they may take a test in order to own a long barrel semi auto/bolt action/pump action/lever action/etc. rifle. The following year the child may take a test for fully automatic long barreled rifles. The year after that for smaller guns. Both fully automatic and semi auto. This is to ensure proper and safe gun usage. As well as the ability to stand against any who would wish to exploit them.
As we all know doctors are in high demand today in universal healthcare countries. You cannot have a conversation without people saying how it takes weeks to see a doctor. I wish to fix this, as my ideal plan is monthly check ups.
First off Nurses would have much more power. If someone with a history of prescriptions asking for a refill, a nurse may fill it out for them in order to free up Doctor's time. Nurses will also help with the monthly check up, as it will mostly be checking their body weight for the rationing program, blood pressure, and other simple to check diagnosis. If a nurse feels like a doctor needs to take a look at a Patient, they will be requested. Essentially, any routine, simple, issue may be dealt with by a nurse in order to free up actual time.
Education is free. This is very important. The general grade system will stay. However after grade 12, the student will have to wait five years before entering advanced education. In this time they will spend time doing various jobs in order to see if they like it. This will generally include various aspects of:
- Municipal Services
- Various Labour jobs
In order to see if they would like to stay in, or are interested in, any of the jobs or their relate fields (Construction would include an intro into electric engineering for example). After this period they will be allowed to enter University if they still wish. The first year will still include diverse subjects in order to inspire then to think about jobs they didn't think about before. Then, and only then, will they choose a field of study.
At this point I'm sure you're wondering how work, well works.
Communism doesn't require nearly as many management, supervisory, or duplicate jobs as a Capitalist society. People will always say Competition is good for the market. But that's only because the two+ Companies are trying to kill off the others in order to create a monopoly in which they may exploit their position for prices. This can be seen with America's internet companies. Where companies do not expand into other's territories and even collude to keep prices high. This is also painfully obvious in Canada's phone network plans. Where Saskatchewan has the best plans due to Government owned Sasktel driving prices low.
Competition may look good on paper, but how many years of research have been lost re-discovering what the other company already is doing?
As such, many mergers, and straight up removal of jobs, and job titles, will reduce the amount a person needs to work a day. Assuming even half the jobs can be removed, that means you only need to work a 4 hour day, 5 days a week. Or 8 hour days on 2/3 alternating shifts.
This isn't all there is either. As I've said earlier, Capitalism would need to transition to Socialism in order to work. This is a huge stepping stone as it will implement possibly the foundation of Communism itself. Capitalist societies require you to work because you need to in order to live. You have no choice. If you do not work, you will die of starvation, or will just live as a homeless individual. Socialism brings in a major change to this system. A Universal Basic Income would release this pressure. However, it wouldn't releave it to much. A person would not longer need to work in order to live. But rather in order to have luxuries. This would transition the working man from taking any and every job offer they get, to being more selective, and following career paths they genuinely enjoy. However, of course people may not be amitious and would then be assigned to less desirable jobs.
This shift from "Work to live" To "Work to Play" changes everything about a society.
Distribution of goods
This is a very tough question to answer, and an even harder one to comprehend. Everyone that will be reading this has been raised in a society where wealth, currency, etc. is all a concept. In a Communist society, these wouldn't make sense.
As we all know, all goods are made, or prepared, by a staff. The goods would start by flowing to those that allowed the good to come into service. For example, if we were making chairs, the first people offered a chair woud be the people who supplied the goods to make the chair. Such as the people who turned raw wood into Lumber. Then those who provided the raw wood would be offered. Etc. Eventually, we run out of people who helped make this product. And as such it is offered to the general public based off of location. Those closer may just come and get it. Eventually everyone who wants a chair, has a chair. As such less people will be needed to make chairs, as the demand goes down.
This is far from a perfect system. This I understand. However until Full Automation is achieved, This is the best option.
A very common topic, and even a very common saying, is "Fuck the Police". This is a stupid saying, and a stupid topic. Police are required in every society. Yes, crime rates would go down in a Communist society due to the lack of need. Why steal when you can just have? However it is silly to assume crime won't still exist. Anywhere from murder, to petty theft is still an issue. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.
This all said, non-violent crimes are a simple solution. If you steal an object, you are not permitted to own one until you have helped in the creation of a set ammount of them. Depending on the complexity of your job, and the object in question, this may be anywhere from a few dozen, to a couple million. Essentially any non-violent crime is the same in that community service suffices.
Violent crimes are a much different story however. I hate to admit it but the American Prison system is a good starting point for these. Less violent individuals may be released into society again, but require weekly therapist appointments, as well as being assigned to physically exhausting labour jobs. They will not be allowed to own a firearm for a minimum of 5 years. If they re-offend, they will be moved up to the more violent individual.
For more Violent individuals, they will be kept in a secure facility resembling a prison. However they will have larger, more accommodating quarters, as well as more freedoms. This is to both make them comfortable, and not really want to escape. As well as to keep guards safer. As they will be less likely to attempt to escape. In this system, Prisoners will still be doing labour jobs. Anything that can be done in a closed facility. However, if geological location allows, they will also work in mines, or even on farms. Much like the lesser security inmates, these people will be banned from owning a firearm, however for life. As well as weekly therapist appointments for years after being let go. If they're let go.
Pre-emptive Murderers will have a life sentence. All other cases will naturally be judged on the go by a jury of their peers. Justice is a democracy.
Government is an interesting issue. You both need wide spread government, and local government. The general idea will be that every town with at least 1000 residents over the age of 25 will elect a Mayor. This Mayor will converse with neighboring Mayors, and they will then elect someone to look after their towns. Essentially leader of the County. Again, this County leader will converse with other County leaders to make a State leader. etc.
However these leaders are essentially just figureheads. There to look over issues that matter to them (Mayor looks over the roads of the town. County looks after roads connecting towns. States look after State land (forests, lakes, etc.), and the Federal government would essentially deal with international issues.). For example, if there is a tornado in a town/city the local Mayor will look after the immediate cleanup and rescue. They will then ask other Mayors and County leader to help if needed. If there is a forest fire that is likely to be in the jurisdiction of multiple counties, the State will direst fire and rescue. And may ask for help from other states, or the federal government. Finally, the Federal government would essentially only be there if there's a huge issue. Such as a new epidemic, or a natural disaster so bad they're having trouble locally.
All Leaders must hold actual jobs alongside their position in order to prevent any attempts at taking power from the people. This would mainly be jobs that they'd reside over if possible. If they submit an idea and the population shoots it down, they are not allowed to propose it again for a year if Mayor, Two years if County, 3 if State, etc.
Finally, any decision that isn't time sensitive will be voted on by everyone bellow that who is proposing the decision. For example if a County wanted to change a dirt road into a paved road, every town in the County gets a say. This will be dealt with online. Security measures would be tight, however pretty secure.
Personal Closing Notes
This is all subject to expand, or change. These are not rules for this subreddit, but just my idea of a functional, working, Communist nation. If you have any other questions, or want to tell me how I'm wrong, please either message me, or tag in in a post. If you mention me in a subreddit that is not this one, I may be banned, and as such will need to converse in PM.
