[EVENT] New England Army Reorganization

Office of the Secretary of Defence of New England:

Alexander Shepard, Secretary of Defence

As part of reforms being made to the New England Army, in the wake of independence, the President of New England contacted MoD, Geneva, looking for assistance in equipping the Army with modern, advanced equipment, replacing obsolete equipment which has been in service with the Army since the break-up of the United States.

The program to build organisational interoperability with our North American Accord partners has been cancelled, in view of recent instability in the North American Confederation, which has shown the standardisation of North American militaries to be more of a risk to national security, instead of a help to securing it.

After a number of contacts, the Commonwealth Government and the Geneva Convention have agreed to a major one-off military development package, to be built between New Englander and Genevan factories, to supply the New England Army with the equipment necessary to build it into a capable, coherent fighting force for New England.

The military development package is expected to cost US$80.3 billion, and will take three years to complete, to be in service by April 2054. A campaign to attract new personnel for the New England Army will be completed in the meantime, and is expected to recruit a large number of new recruits for the expanded Army,

New England National Guard:

Unlike any other nation in North America, the New England Army will not have a reserve component, instead the National Guard will revert to its Revolutionary War status as a militia force, providing additional manpower to Commonwealth government in a time of war, rather than developing its own combat capabilities.

The individual State National Guard's will perform international border guard, aid to state government, and state-based emergency response duties in peacetime, and will subsume any existing State National Guard, state defence force, or any other paramilitary forces organised by the states, into its organisational structure.
