Hiring Senior Administrative Assistant Position

This position involves serving as the Senior Administrative Assistant for Dr. Alan Peterson, the Director of the STRONG STAR Consortium and the Consortium to Alleviate PTSD (CAP) within the Division of Behavioral Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. STRONG STAR and CAP are the nation's largest research consortia involved in the development and evaluation of the most effective treatments for combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and comorbid disorders (traumatic brain injury, sleep disorders, chronic pain, substance use disorders, suicide, etc.) in active duty military personnel and veterans. We collaborate with over 150 of the nation's top scientists, investigators, and clinicians who are highly dedicated to provide the best evidence-based treatment to U.S. military service members and veterans who have returned from deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and surrounding locations. Previous experience with the military as an active duty/guard/reserve service member, spouse, or family member is highly desirable. Required qualifications include an Associate’s degree with five (5) years of related experience or a high school diploma or GED with seven (7) years related experience. This position will be required to provide various administrative duties to support the Division of Behavioral Medicine, STRONG STAR, and CAP at UT Health San Antonio. The Senior Administrative Assistant is expected to provide high level of administrative secretarial support to faculty and staff, with emphasis on employees in research and grant funded activities. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating travel arrangements, course registrations, travel reimbursement, scheduling of meetings and conferences, maintaining faculty calendars, and creating and sending out notices/flyers internally. The Senior Administrative Assistant also provides support to the division administrator and project coordinators in areas related to the daily operations of the administrative office. The assistant will provide telephone support and greet guests and visitors for the main office including university professors and senior military personnel. The position will also involve being responsible for processing requisitions in the department as well as preparing, processing and tracking all service requests. The position is security sensitive and will require a criminal background check. We want someone who can portray the highest levels of professional communication and someone who is dedicated to supporting our military warriors who have returned from the war zone. Considerable interactions with television, radio, and newspaper reporters are also required related to media coverage after securing large peer-reviewed research grants and with the media release of major scientific findings and breakthroughs. We need someone who is a dedicated team member with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills who can help us achieve our important mission. As always, the position will include all other duties as assigned.
